Swedish textile artist Kerstin Paradis Gustafsson has a unique and extensive knowledge of textile techniques that spans both
history and continents. Her knowledge comes from extensive research and is driven by a passion for preserving textile
techniques that were once passed down from generation to generation but are now almost lost to modern production methods.

In this book Kerstin explores some of Scandinavia's unique and almost forgotten textile techniques, she explains the
cultural significance of the techniques and gives insight into the regions from which they originate.

The book guides the reader to a better understanding of the infinite uses of the thread and highlights how revered these
techniques were to those that used them.

Techniques such as knitting, twined knitting, troll knitting, needle binding, crochet, braided and woven ribbons and
tablet weaving are explored and demonstrated in easy to follow steps, illustrated with drawings and photos.

I would not recommend this book to anyone. It is poorly written and poorly translated. There is no way you could learn to actually do any fiber crafts using only the information in the book. I have been doing various fiber crafts since I was a child. I knew more from my own experience of weaving, knitting, and crochet than this book provides. The book gives confusing, inadequate information and lacks detail. I bought the book to learn something about tablet weaving, specifically. I'm glad I bought a second book on the subject as well. This one was useless. Finally, the book gives almost no information about the history and use of the tools pictured on the cover and in the chapters.
This has good illustrations of many types of knitting and crochet. There are brief discussions of rigid heddle and tablet weaving. There is no discussion of floor looms and floor loom weaving.
I think this is a lovely little book for any person interested in old textile and textile tools. My only regret is that it is not offered in printed form. I really dislike having to read it on a or at my computer!! I am however glad it is available to the public in some format.
This book has a good summery of early textile techniques in Scandinavia. She does a good job on the Nalebinding, but barely touches belt weaving. It, however is certainly worth adding to your textile collection, as it covers among other things braiding, Lucets, and even Hairpin lace. I think a 5 star is due on the Nalebinding alone, considering what is in print now.
This is a good book for overview of the individual styles and techniques. It is helpful for someone who has had previous instructions and needs a little refresher course.
